Restaurant — historic building
Wallpapering a ceiling is technically challenging enough. Wallpapering a barrel vault—a continuous curved surface—in a historic building in the center of Imola is a whole different ballgame. The curvature of the surface requires the paper to gradually conform to the ceiling’s geometry without creating creases, bubbles, or tension that could cause it to peel over time.
The Ristorante Semplice, located in Imola’s central square, chose a vinyl non-woven wallpaper from Officinarkitettura to completely cover the vaulted ceiling. Although vinyl is more durable and washable than traditional wallpapers—a fundamental quality in a restaurant setting—it requires a specific installation technique on curved surfaces to ensure uniform adhesion across the entire surface.
The Challenge
Adapting vinyl fabric to the curved geometry of a historic barrel vault ceiling, ensuring even adhesion, no wrinkles, and a visually flawless result in a high-end public space.
The result
A historic ceiling enhanced by contemporary cladding, where the technical challenges of installing it on a curved surface are completely invisible in the final result.
